Compliance documents for gas engineers

Generate these documents in under 30 seconds from your project details.

RAMS

Risk Assessment & Method Statement

Required for site-based gas work. Must cover gas leak procedures, CO detection, ventilation requirements, and emergency isolation.

Risk Assessment

Hazard identification and control measures

Required for all gas work. Key hazards: gas leaks, carbon monoxide, burns, working in confined spaces, asbestos flue materials.

COSHH Assessment

Hazardous substances assessment

Required when handling refrigerants, flux, sealants, or working near asbestos-containing flue materials.

Method Statement

Step-by-step safe system of work

Often required for boiler installations, gas main connections, and purging procedures.

Key regulations for gas engineers

Our templates are built around these requirements so your documents are compliant from the start.

Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998

The primary legislation governing gas work in the UK. Only Gas Safe registered engineers can carry out gas work. Requires annual safety checks (CP12) for landlords.

Gas Safe Register

The official registration body for gas engineers in the UK. Registration must be renewed annually and covers specific appliance categories (CCN1, CKR1, HTR1, etc.).

ACS (Accredited Certification Scheme)

The competence assessment scheme for gas engineers. Engineers must pass ACS assessments in their chosen appliance categories and reassess every 5 years.

CDM 2015

Applies to gas engineers working on construction sites. RAMS must cover gas-specific hazards including carbon monoxide, gas leaks, and working in confined spaces.

Frequently asked questions

Do gas engineers need RAMS?

Yes. Gas engineers working on construction sites or for principal contractors need RAMS. Even for domestic work, a risk assessment covering gas-specific hazards (leaks, CO, burns, confined spaces) is a legal requirement. RAMS should reference Gas Safe procedures and emergency protocols.

What is a CP12 certificate?

A CP12 (now officially called a Landlord Gas Safety Record) is the annual gas safety check certificate that landlords must obtain for every gas appliance in a rented property. Only a Gas Safe registered engineer can issue one. The check must be carried out every 12 months.

How often do ACS certificates need renewing?

ACS (Accredited Certification Scheme) assessments must be renewed every 5 years. Your Gas Safe registration, which is based on your ACS qualifications, must be renewed annually. Track both expiry dates to ensure you remain legally qualified to carry out gas work.
